Our Wood

There are many different types of wood available on the market and typically some are more suited to certain types of joinery than others. Tulipwood for example is excellent for use on internal joinery but wouldn’t fare so well if it was used as part of a window exposed to the elements. Below are a few of the common types of wood that we use for our external joinery and some of their benefits.

ACCOYA

Accoya is a major development in wood technology, it enables the consistent supply of durable, non-toxic and dimensionally stable wood. This makes it an ideal material for manufacturing high performance, exterior timber products and compared to other durable wood species, Accoya wood offers superior thermal insulation. This provides energy conservation advantages when used in applications such as window frames and doors. To find out more click here.

SAPELE

Sapele is a very large tree with cylindrical bole and small or no buttresses, which grows to heights of 45m or more with a diameter of around 10m. Sapele is much harder than African or American mahogany, and in resistance to indentation, bending strength, and resistance to shock loads, is practically equal with English oak.
  • This African hardwood is excellent for use in external joinery such as doors and windows
  • Reddish brown in colour with a wavy grain, it is suitable for either staining or spray finishing

EUROPEAN OAK

European Oak is an attractive hardwood that is versatile, durable and blends in incredibly well with its surroundings. This wood is an extremely popular choice for both interior and exterior joinery due to its traditional appearance. European Oak has a straight grain and is a light tan to biscuit colour. Often doors made from this material are stained with UV protection to emphasize the character of the wood.

  • Suitable for both interior and exterior
  • Superb versatility and durability
