Premium Timbers & Accoya® for Bespoke Joinery

The choice of timber is one of the most important decisions when creating high-quality bespoke joinery. Different timber species offer unique characteristics, with some being better suited to internal joinery, while others provide the durability and stability required for external applications such as bespoke timber windows and timber doors.

At James Wilding Joinery, we carefully select premium timbers based on each project’s requirements, considering factors including strength, stability, appearance, weather resistance and the desired finish. Working from our Yorkshire workshop, we manufacture bespoke timber windows, doors, staircases and fitted joinery using carefully selected materials to ensure exceptional performance and lasting beauty.

For example, Tulipwood is an excellent choice for many internal joinery applications due to its smooth finish and versatility, but it would not be the ideal timber for external windows exposed to changing weather conditions. For external joinery, we typically use more durable timbers selected for their long-term performance, including Sapele hardwood and Accoya®.

Below are some of the premium timbers we commonly use for our bespoke joinery, along with the benefits and characteristics that make each one suitable for different applications.

Accoya® Timber for Bespoke Windows & Doors

As an Accoya® Approved Manufacturer, James Wilding Joinery uses this high-performance timber for bespoke external joinery where exceptional durability, stability and long-term performance are essential.

Accoya® represents a significant advancement in timber technology, creating a durable, non-toxic and highly stable material that is ideally suited to the manufacture of premium timber windows and doors. Through an advanced modification process, Accoya® timber offers outstanding resistance to moisture, movement, decay and insect damage, helping to ensure your joinery continues to perform beautifully for many years.

Its exceptional dimensional stability makes Accoya® an excellent choice for exposed external applications, particularly timber windows and doors that need to withstand the changing Yorkshire climate. It also offers excellent thermal performance, helping to improve energy efficiency while maintaining the natural beauty and character of real timber.

For homeowners looking for long-lasting, low-maintenance bespoke timber windows and doors, Accoya® provides the perfect combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern performance.

Sapele Hardwood for Bespoke Timber Windows & Doors

Sapele is a premium hardwood that has long been valued for its strength, stability and attractive appearance. Its excellent durability and resistance to wear make it a popular choice for high-quality external joinery, including bespoke timber windows and doors.

With characteristics comparable to traditional hardwoods such as English oak, Sapele offers excellent strength, dimensional stability and resistance to impact, making it well suited to products that need to withstand changing weather conditions while maintaining their beauty and performance.

The natural grain and warm tones of Sapele also provide an attractive finish, whether enhanced with a traditional stain or complemented with a high-quality painted finish. This makes it a versatile and dependable choice for both heritage properties and contemporary homes.
