Supply Only or Professional Installation
At James Wilding Joinery, we design and manufacture bespoke timber doors for traditional and contemporary properties, combining skilled craftsmanship with carefully selected materials, modern performance and thoughtful design.
Every door is individually made to order in our workshop in Rylstone, near Skipton, using carefully selected Accoya®, European Oak, Sapele and Tulipwood according to the application and requirements of the project. From external entrance doors and traditional stable doors to French doors, bi-fold doors and bespoke internal doors, each design can be tailored to complement the architecture and character of your property.
Whether you’re restoring a period home, renovating a country property or specifying bespoke joinery for a contemporary project, our experienced team can guide you through the design, timber selection, glazing, architectural ironmongery and factory finishing options available.
From our Yorkshire workshop, we manufacture bespoke timber doors for homeowners, architects and contractors throughout the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas, with both supply-only and professional installation available.
Bespoke External timber Doors
A beautifully crafted timber entrance door can become an important architectural feature of a property. We design and manufacture bespoke external timber doors for period homes, country properties, barn conversions and contemporary architecture, with each door individually designed to complement its setting.
Choose from carefully selected Accoya®, European Oak or Sapele, together with bespoke panel configurations, glazing, mouldings, architectural ironmongery and factory-applied paint or stain finishes. Existing doors and traditional detailing can also be carefully reproduced where appropriate for renovation and heritage projects.
Bespoke Timber Stable doors
Bespoke timber stable doors combine traditional character with practical everyday use, making them particularly well suited to cottages, farmhouses, barn conversions and country properties, as well as carefully considered contemporary homes.
Each stable door is individually made to order, with the upper and lower sections designed to open independently or together. Choose from Accoya®, European Oak or Sapele, together with bespoke panel configurations, glazing, architectural ironmongery and professional factory-applied paint or stain finishes.
Bespoke Timber Bi-fold doors
Bespoke timber bi-fold doors create wide, flexible openings between interior and exterior spaces, making them particularly suited to extensions, garden rooms, kitchens and contemporary living areas.
Individually manufactured to suit the opening and architecture of your property, our timber bi-fold doors can incorporate high-performance glazing, precision-engineered operating hardware, secure locking systems and professional factory-applied finishes. Timber, configuration and finishing details can all be tailored to the requirements of the project.
Bespoke Timber French Doors
Bespoke timber French doors offer an elegant way to connect interior and exterior spaces while complementing both traditional and contemporary architecture. Their classic paired-door design makes them particularly suited to period properties, cottages, extensions and garden-facing rooms.
Each set is made to order and can be tailored with your preferred timber, glazing arrangement, proportions, mouldings, architectural ironmongery and factory finish. Traditional detailing can be incorporated for heritage properties, while cleaner profiles and contemporary hardware can create a more modern appearance.
Bespoke Timber Internal Doors
Bespoke internal doors allow proportions, panel arrangements, mouldings and finishes to be designed around the architecture and interior character of your home. From traditional panelled doors and sympathetic replacements to cleaner contemporary designs, each door is individually manufactured for the project.
We regularly work with European Oak where the natural grain and character of the timber will remain visible, alongside Tulipwood for high-quality painted internal joinery. Existing profiles and architectural details can also be carefully reproduced for period properties, renovations and restoration projects.
Designed Around Your Property
Every bespoke timber door can be tailored to complement the architecture, character and practical requirements of your property. From timber selection and proportions to glazing, mouldings, architectural ironmongery and factory finishes, each detail is considered as part of the overall design.
Depending on the door style, options can include high-performance and decorative glazing, traditional or contemporary architectural ironmongery, secure locking systems and a wide choice of professional factory-applied finishes.
Our doors are professionally prepared and finished in our dedicated spray facility using Teknos microporous coating systems, with many paint colour available alongside carefully selected stains and protective finishes for natural timber.

What types of timber doors do you manufacture?
We manufacture a wide range of bespoke timber doors, including external entrance doors, stable doors, French doors, bi-fold doors and internal doors. We also undertake bespoke designs and sympathetic replacements for period and heritage properties.
Which timbers do you use?
Depending on the application and design, we work with carefully selected Accoya®, European Oak, Sapele and Tulipwood. Accoya®, Sapele and European Oak can be used for external joinery, while European Oak and Tulipwood are also used extensively for internal projects.
Can you match an existing timber door?
Yes. Where appropriate, we can reproduce existing proportions, panel arrangements, mouldings, glazing details and other architectural features to create a replacement door that complements the existing property.
Do you install your timber doors?
Yes. Our experienced team can install your bespoke timber doors as part of our professional installation service. Supply-only joinery is also available for suitable projects.
Which areas do you cover?
From our workshop in Rylstone, near Skipton, we design, manufacture and install bespoke timber doors throughout Yorkshire and surrounding areas, including Harrogate, York, Ilkley, Wharfedale, Wensleydale, Nidderdale, the Yorkshire Dales, Calder Valley, the Ribble Valley and the South Lake District. Do I need planning permission to replace my doors?
Planning permission is not normally required for straightforward door replacement, although additional restrictions may apply to listed buildings, properties within conservation areas or buildings affected by an Article 4 Direction. Listed building consent may also be required where alterations affect the character of a listed building.
Building Regulations are separate from planning permission and may also apply. If you’re unsure, we recommend checking with your Local Planning Authority or Building Control before work begins.
