27 bespoke timber windows and four external doors, manufactured and installed for a traditional Yorkshire Dales property near Skipton.
As part of a full-house renovation in Hartlington, near Burnsall and Skipton, James Wilding Joinery was commissioned to manufacture and install a complete package of bespoke Accoya timber windows and external doors.
The traditional stone property required 27 new timber windows and four external doors, with each piece of joinery designed specifically for the house. The aim was to retain its traditional character and proportions while introducing the benefits of modern, high-performance timber windows and doors.
Every window and door was made to measure in our Yorkshire workshop and installed by our own team.

Bespoke timber windows for a traditional Yorkshire property
Rather than using one standard window design throughout the property, the replacement timber windows were individually designed to suit the different openings and architectural character of the house.
The project included a combination of traditional sliding sash windows, flush casement windows, bespoke glazed doors and screens, together with smaller individually proportioned windows.
Working across several different window and door styles on a project of this scale requires consistency in everything from proportions and detailing to finish and installation. By manufacturing the complete package in our own workshop, we were able to ensure the different elements worked together while remaining appropriate to their individual openings.
The result is new joinery that feels consistent throughout the property without making every window look the same.
Accoya timber windows and doors
All 27 windows and four external doors were manufactured from Accoya timber, chosen for its dimensional stability, durability and suitability for high-quality external joinery.
For a whole-house window and door replacement project of this scale, material choice was particularly important. Accoya’s stability helps minimise movement within the timber and provides an excellent base for a durable painted finish, while allowing our craftsmen to produce the traditional profiles and detailing required for the property.
It gives us the combination we are looking for on projects such as this: traditional timber joinery with the durability and performance expected from a modern window or door.
Traditional timber windows with modern performance
Although the new windows and doors were designed to complement the traditional Yorkshire stone property, modern performance was incorporated throughout.
The windows were double glazed and fully weather sealed, improving thermal performance while retaining the proportions and detailing associated with traditional timber windows.
Ironmongery was also carefully specified for the project, including Coastal Group ironmongery, providing additional durability alongside the Accoya construction.
The result is bespoke joinery that respects the appearance and character of the property without compromising on the practical performance expected from newly manufactured timber windows and doors.

Factory finished in Farrow & Ball Shaded White
All of the new joinery was factory finished in our workshop using Teknos, colour matched to Farrow & Ball Shaded White.
The soft off-white works particularly well against the natural Yorkshire stone and helps bring together the different styles of windows and doors across the property.
Factory finishing also means the coating can be applied under controlled workshop conditions before the completed joinery arrives on site, forming an important part of the overall protection and finish of the timber.
31 bespoke windows and doors – made in our workshop and installed by our team
A whole-house project involving 31 individual windows and doors requires more than simply producing the joinery. Each opening has its own dimensions and requirements, while the completed package needs to work together as part of the same property.
Our experienced bench joiners manufactured each window and door in our Yorkshire workshop, combining traditional joinery skills with modern machinery and manufacturing methods.
Once completed and factory finished, the joinery was installed at the Hartlington property by our team.
Having responsibility for both manufacture and installation gives us control over the process from workshop to finished installation and means the joinery is made specifically for the building, rather than the building having to accommodate a range of standard manufactured products.
For a renovation of this scale, that genuinely bespoke approach makes an important difference.
