Bespoke Accoya French Doors & Interior Joinery in Ilkley
Two sets of bespoke Accoya French doors, alongside handcrafted kitchen and boot room cabinetry for a beautiful Ilkley home.
This project in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, brought together several different areas of bespoke joinery within one beautifully considered home.
James Wilding Joinery was commissioned to manufacture and install two sets of bespoke Accoya French doors, creating a connection between the house and garden while remaining sympathetic to the traditional stone exterior of the property.
Alongside the architectural joinery, our workshop also handcrafted the bespoke cabinetry for a new kitchen and boot room, designed and installed by Millybell Interiors.
The result demonstrates how architectural and interior joinery can work together throughout a property, with each element individually made for the home.

Bespoke timber French doors in Ilkley
The two sets of French doors were manufactured from Accoya timber by our experienced joiners in our Yorkshire workshop.
Designed specifically for the existing property, the doors combine generous areas of glazing with traditional timber proportions, bringing natural light into the rooms while creating an easy connection with the garden.
Rather than working with predetermined sizes or adapting standard manufactured doors, each set was made specifically for its individual opening.
This allowed the proportions, glazing and detailing to be considered in relation to the architecture of the property itself — one of the key advantages of commissioning genuinely bespoke timber doors.
For an existing stone property, details such as these make an important difference to how the finished joinery sits within the building.

Accoya timber and Coastal ironmongery
For external joinery, the specification behind the finished appearance is just as important as what you see.
Accoya was selected for the French doors because of its excellent dimensional stability and durability, making it particularly well suited to high-quality external timber joinery.
For a pair of frequently used external doors, stability is especially important. Minimising movement within the timber helps the doors retain their fit and operate consistently as conditions change throughout the year.
The doors were complemented by Coastal ironmongery, carefully specified to provide the quality and durability required for regular everyday use.
Together with modern glazing, weather sealing and careful workshop manufacture, these details allow the doors to provide contemporary performance while retaining the appearance and character of traditional painted timber joinery.
Factory finished in Farrow & Ball All White
Both sets of French doors were fully factory finished using a Teknos coating system colour matched to Farrow & Ball All White.
The crisp painted finish provides a subtle contrast against the traditional Yorkshire stone exterior while also working beautifully with the interior scheme.
Factory finishing allows the coating system to be applied under controlled workshop conditions before the completed joinery is transported to site.
It also means the doors arrive at the property as finished pieces of joinery, ready for installation by our team.

Manufactured and installed by James Wilding Joinery
From the initial measurements through to manufacture, finishing and installation, the French doors were produced specifically for this Ilkley property by the James Wilding Joinery team.
Our workshop combines modern manufacturing equipment with the traditional bench-joinery skills and experience that remain central to our business.
Our experienced craftsmen have the knowledge and practical skills required to manufacture external doors and architectural joinery specifically for individual buildings, while modern machinery gives us the accuracy required for contemporary glazing, seals and hardware.
This combination gives us the flexibility to work around an existing property rather than being restricted to standard sizes, profiles or configurations.
Once manufactured and factory finished, both sets of French doors were installed at the property by our own team, giving us continuity from the workshop through to the finished installation.
Handcrafted kitchen cabinetry for Millybell Interiors
The project extended well beyond the external doors.
The new kitchen was designed and installed by Millybell Interiors, with the bespoke cabinetry handcrafted by James Wilding Joinery in our workshop.
The rich painted cabinetry is paired with natural timber interiors, stone worktops and carefully considered storage, creating a kitchen that feels elegant while remaining practical for everyday use.
A substantial island sits at the centre of the room, while individually made cabinetry incorporates appliances and provides generous storage without overwhelming the space.
One particularly attractive detail is the concealed drinks and breakfast cupboard. Behind the painted exterior, the doors open to reveal warm natural timber cabinetry and storage designed specifically around its intended use.
Details such as this demonstrate one of the advantages of handcrafted cabinetry: the craftsmanship continues inside the furniture, rather than stopping at the visible exterior.

Bespoke boot room joinery
The same approach continues into the boot room, where bespoke fitted cabinetry provides practical storage for everyday family life.
A built-in bench seat is combined with storage and coat hooks, making effective use of the available space while maintaining the quality and detailing seen throughout the rest of the project.
Boot rooms are hardworking spaces, particularly in Yorkshire homes, but that doesn’t mean they need to be treated as an afterthought.
Bespoke joinery allows storage, seating and practical requirements to be designed around the room itself, turning a functional space into an integral part of the wider interior.

External and interior joinery for one Ilkley home
What makes this project particularly interesting is the range of joinery involved.
The Accoya French doors form part of the external fabric of the property and need to withstand the weather, provide security and operate reliably throughout the year.
The kitchen and boot room cabinetry have very different requirements, with the emphasis on storage, practicality, interior detailing and the way the furniture works within each room.
But all of the joinery shares something important: it was individually manufactured for the same home by skilled craftsmen in our workshop.
It’s a good demonstration of the breadth of genuinely bespoke joinery — from external timber doors made specifically for an existing stone property to handcrafted cabinetry and fitted furniture within.
